Winemaking unit converter

Convert gallons and liters, ounces and grams, grams into ppm in a tank, and Fahrenheit and Celsius, both ways, with the factor shown.

Bench arithmetic, with the working shown. Nothing here is saved, and none of these numbers is a figure for a label. Each one comes from a working formula with its assumption stated. Bench-trial anything before it goes into a tank.

Gallons and liters

Tank volumes, additions, transfers.
=

1 US gallon = 3.785411784 liters. Barrels are stamped in liters. Tanks usually aren't.

Ounces and grams

Additions off a kitchen scale.
=

1 oz = 28.349523125 g. These are avoirdupois ounces, not troy, which is what a wine scale reads.

Grams into a volume

What a dose weighs for the tank in front of you.
=

1 g in 100 gal ≈ 2.64 ppm. The same grams in 500 gal give a fifth of the ppm.

Fahrenheit and Celsius

Ferment temps, cellar temps, cold stability.
=

°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. 60 °F is 15.6 °C; 86 °F is 30 °C.
